Camel Riding School
Learn how to ride the camel with "yallajabaleya".
Based in St. Catherine, high in the Sinai mountains, your day will begin at 8am when you first climb for half an hour to the wadi where you will find the Camel School. First you will learn how to coach a camel, then hobble it so that you can practice mounting and dismounting. This will make you appreciate the ageless patience of a camel. You then learn how to saddle up and adjust the seating to find the most comfortable position for you. You can then ride the camel around a test circuit, though you will have to learn the local camel dialect to communicate your intentions to the camel. Now it's time to change the gait of the camel from a walk, through a trot to a gallop and finish with a race up the wadi or a 2 hour trek to the ruins of Byzantine hermitages and a Bedouin garden, pending on how comfortable you feel with the camel.
The day starts at 8am and you will return approx 6pm, this trip includes a Bedouin lunch, drinks, guides and camel tuition. Total cost are 400 LE per person.
Tracey's Take : Excellent value for money, I loved this day and now wish to be a camel jockey ! If I could do this every day I would, fantastic company, excellent tuition with a lot of patience when you don't get it right the first time and a memorable, exciting and good fun day out. This trip involves a 30 minutes walk up a mountain to get to the camel school but if I can do it anyone can !
